Flat faces become true planes and round faces become true cylinders, so holes keep their exact diameter in CAD. Curved organic surfaces (sculpture, spheres) stay as small flat facets.

The preview opens the converted file in OpenCascade — the CAD kernel inside FreeCAD — so you see the solid exactly as CAD software will. STEP (AP214) opens in SolidWorks, Fusion, FreeCAD, Onshape, Creo, CATIA and Inventor; IGES is for older CAM software.

The sheet is scaled to a standard scale (1:2, 1:5…). The DXF has the same views at full size for CAM.

Cut files

The exact outline and holes of one flat face — for plates cut by laser, plasma, waterjet or router.

DXF is R12 at full size in mm, readable by LightBurn, RDWorks, LaserGRBL, SheetCam, Fusion CAM, VCarve and Mach3.

Good to know

Parts exported from CAD convert best. Fillets and holes come back as real cylinders; tapers, spheres and freeform shapes stay faceted.
In Fusion: Insert → Insert Mesh is not needed — open the STEP directly. In FreeCAD: File → Open, then Part → Refine shape if faces look split.
Check critical sizes on the drawing against your design before cutting; an STL only stores the surface, so tolerances and threads are lost.
